A day, when even a single meal is missed, looks so incomplete to us. Some control their hunger to diet and some increase their diet to gain but there are many who starve and struggle to live every day. These are the people who are so hungry, that God appears to them in the form of bread. Many of us have dumped the extra food, thrown away the ‘not so delicious’ meals or wasted the food when we’re done but never thought how this wasted food can save the lives of the children and people on the street coping up with their helplessness every day and wish to die every night due to hunger.
With the so-called advanced world, there are many such sectors that need attention and being a citizen of the nation isn’t its the responsibility of us the people to help the people in need. Mother Teressa rightly said, ‘If you cannot feed everyone, at least feed someone’ and if even 1/4 of the population start doing it, the world will be such a better place to live in. Initiatives like Zero Hunger are of great importance now just because the government and the people failed to look after these issues before. Development in the private and agricultural sector was so high and of great concern that the proportion of the undernourished people drop by almost half. Countries like Central and East Asia, Latin America and the Carribean, by all means, have proved that if you decide to make a change, the world will see the change. These countries were capable enough and made huge progress towards eradicating extreme hunger problems.
Extreme hunger and malnutrition is one major issue that needs attention and solutions as fast as possible. According to the facts of 2014, 795 million people are under the chronically undernourished category as a direct consequence of natural hazards like environmental degradation, droughts, etc. There are over 85-90 million of children who are below the age of 5 years and are sadly underweight. Measures need to be taken to settle the hunger issues or else the number of undernourished people will keep on increasing and it will be too late to think about a change towards it.
Luckily, the government has initiated and taken a step forward to look into the matter and take it into consideration on the priority bases. The Sustainable Development Goals have set targets to achieve that clearly aim to eradicate all the forms of hunger and malnutrition by 2030. This initiative will make sure that the children and people have sufficient food and access to the nutrients required all year round. Activities like improving the livelihood, the capacity of small scale farmers, technology & markets, promoting agricultural activities. Once decided to bring a change, there is nothing that can undo your action or change. Together we can and we surely will bring a change and eradicate hunger by all means that not even a single person goes to bed hungry.
Remember, a small change can make the world a better place to live in. Feed the ones in need to fulfill a good dead.
