Volunteering on SocioStory, in numbers
What volunteers did at drives run through SocioStory: the drives, the hours recorded at them and the people the NGOs reached. Only totals, with no names and no number small enough to point to anyone. Free to reuse.
Totals for all time
No drives have been completed and confirmed in all time yet. The first figures appear here after the first drive is confirmed.
How we count
Recorded, reported, and left out
Recorded
Hours come from the hour ledger: volunteers check in and out with the organiser’s rotating QR code, the organiser signs off the roster, and SocioStory confirms it. Each person is credited the lesser of the time they were there and the scheduled time plus 30 minutes, in half-hour steps, at most 8 hours a day. Any reversal is taken off.
Reported
People reached is the number each NGO gave when it signed off its drive. SocioStory doesn’t check it, and doesn’t verify NGOs’ work, compliance or finances.
Left out
Drives not yet signed off and confirmed, cancelled drives, drives by organisations whose accounts are suspended, logs volunteers keep for themselves, and Academy course hours. Volunteering on SocioStory is for adults, so nothing here is about anyone under 18.
Privacy
Only totals. A group with fewer than 5 volunteers never shows its volunteers or hours: it’s merged into “Other”, and so is one more group when that’s needed to stop a small group being worked out. Hours are rounded to whole hours. Years follow the drive’s date in India time.
