Starting a Centre

Register your college
Create a free account and your college's workspace.

Set up your Centre
Add your location, the causes you'll take on, how far students will travel, your exam dates and the schemes you report for. Name a faculty anchor, ideally your NSS Programme Officer.

Choose your first Lead
Nominate a student. SocioStory reviews your Centre, interviews them with your anchor and, once they're appointed, approves the Centre.

Bring in students
Students join with your link or code, by picking your college, or from your class list. A leader confirms each one.

Take requests
Requests from NGOs nearby arrive in your leaders' inbox. They have 24 hours to accept seats or decline.

What does it cost?
Nothing. SocioStory Centres are free for colleges.
Is there an agreement to sign?
Yes: a short memorandum of understanding between your college and SocioStory, for three years. Read the model MoU.
We have several campuses. How does that work?
Each campus runs its own Centre, with its own leaders, members and location, so requests reach the campus nearest the drive. Your college's workspace sees them all together and can prepare combined reports.
Which records can we get?
Signed hour statements for students (in NSS work-diary, UGC field-engagement and AICTE activity formats), registers for the students who choose to share their records, and NAAC extension and outreach data. Hours come from NGOs' attendance at each drive; students' own logs of other volunteering are never included.
When can we start?
As soon as your Centre is set up. It gets requests from NGOs within your travel distance that run drives on SocioStory, so how many you get depends on your city.
How are students kept safe?
SocioStory’s team reviews each NGO’s first three drives before they’re listed, and a random one in ten after that. Every drive has a safety checklist and an emergency contact, and a blood donation camp must name the licensed blood centre that runs it. Volunteering is for adults only (18 or older), and nobody’s location is tracked. Read our code of conduct.
